Going to Concerts Alone: Weird or Cool?

Sometimes, somehow, you end up with one concert ticket. Or maybe you don't have anybody to go with... or maybe you're just reclusive. Whatever the reason, Marc, Tod and Salwin break down whether or not it's okay to "fly solo."

How bizarre.

I was going to type "How Bizarre" in my 2nd post, but decided against it thinking it was too obvious a joke, GET OUTTA MY HEAD CHAMBERS!

And another great magnet experience, I was on transit going down town to see a movie, alone. The hurt Locker is an okay movie, but has some pacing issues not to mention a wandering plot.

On the train I was watching a woman who must have just started to use meth, because most meth heads are not plumpers. She was picking, twitching, and jittering about like a madwoman.

I am married with 4 kids and am the one at home. Odds are if I want to do anything not child based i do it alone. I don't have to go to concerts alone because I think I burned out the 'new music' part of my brain.

I also book the Low Budget Stickam shows as 'alone time' and make sure the kids are being looked after, and I go to the apartment/office/spider hole I maintain.

I go to concerts alone a lot, mostly for work purposes but also for fun when the girlfriend can't/doesn't want to. I've seen a TON of Springsteen concerts alone (probably more then half of my 20+ shows) but inevitably meet a lot of cool people at those. The guy I sat next to at the Sports Arena a couple months ago kept buying me beers until I literally had to tell him to stop because I had to drive home.

But like Gio said, even when you don't talk to anyone it's still a fun time and certainly beats the alternative. I took an ex to a Social D show in Anaheim a few years ago and seriously contemplated leaving halfway through because of all her bitching.

My Solitary Observations:

CONCERTS: Saw "George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars" alone..great hgh energy dance floor. Ended up making out with some chick I never saw again. Had less successful attempts at The Roots, and various Metal or Punk shows (AKA "Dude Shows") I think No Doubt has definite potential for hook-ups.

SPORTS: Went to a Red Sox game alone two summers ago. It was very boring. I started keeping score, and felt lame. The Sox mounted a crazy comeback, scored 6 times in the bottom of the 9th. That game is now known as the "Mother's Day Miracle," so that was fun, but I wouldn't do it again.

BARS: I have no reservations about going to a bar alone, but Boston is a small enough town that since I spent 5 years bartending here, chances are I will know someone working at any place in my rotation.

Dudes, going solo is the way to go. That is the new hip thing thesedays. You don't need friends to hold you back from having a good time.

Going to concerts, parties, bars, dance clubs, movies and eating at expensive restaurants is the way to go and the way to meet new people that you will probably never see again. Every experience is different, every dirty look you get is unique and every rejection is new with every opportunity! I recommend this wholeheatedly guys!

I mean at the end of the night, you can have a lovely night of touching oneself and fall right to sleep.

P.S. - By no means is this a reflection of my life

Tod "...back in the day I once went to a rave alone.."
Let me guess what happened next Tod, "Some Creepy European Guy Gave you Extasy"

So now that the live show on Saturday is confirmed, it is also now confirmed that Gio will be in his office crying under his desk because he is restricted to a private intranet and doesn't have a "fancy man phone" that could handle stickam.

First, the podcast is amazing...and "B" the monolithic convenience store in Phoenix is "Quiktrip" not "Quik Mart". We have them in Tulsa. Theyre awesome. MIght be the only good thing here... Anyway...

Concerts alone? Only done that once. It sucked. Papa Roach in OKC. Only part of the experience i enjoyed was seeing the drunken, shirtless, long-haired, "I freak out at every rock concert, start a mosh pit and get way too violent" slip on the beer soaked concrete floor and bust his head. And still IT sucked bc there was no one there to see it with me...
No to movies alone...
No to any sporting event alone...

Good catch, Tyler. I really should have gotten the name of the QT right, as it is a beacon of convience store goodness as you are bombing down the 10 at 70 miles an hour... which you can do now that they're getting rid of those photo enforced speed zones. I think I was mixing it up with the Kwik Trips in Tucson, which are more like a low end Circle K.
